Guangming Science City Forum-2023 Launched in Shenzhen

Launch of a major initiative to share science and technology infrastructure

The forum focuses on the task of building a comprehensive national science center in the Greater Bay Area, maximizing the international and domestic influence of Guangming Science City, and supporting the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong region. Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an early demonstration area of ​​socialism with Chinese characteristics. The forum had the format “1+9+3”, namely a main forum, nine parallel forums and three accompanying events through on-site meetings, online participation and multi-page live transmission.

The main forum invited Academician Han Jiecai, President of Harbin Institute of Technology, Academician Nancy Ip, President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Academician Yan Nieng, Head of Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, Academician Yang Xueming, vice president of Southern University of Science and Technology, delivered keynote speeches and held a series of activities including the inauguration ceremony of major science and technology infrastructure platforms, the inauguration ceremony of major foundations and major science and technology infrastructure sharing initiatives.

The parallel forum focused on three main sections: scientific and technological research, industrial development, cooperation and exchanges, establishment of a new generation of artificial intelligence innovation and application seminars, biological imaging institutions and biomedical science and technology innovation forum, new materials science forum, the fourth conference for technical biological innovation, the third international brain research and industry conference, new science and technology information services to support the national science and technology innovation and industry development strategy research forum, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao cooperative innovation forum, the innovation forum further the planning, construction and the operation of large scientific equipment and the forum on the construction and development of the science city of Guangming and nine other events.

Supporting events include nature concerts, regattas, slow cycling and other outdoor activities, providing participants with a relaxed and intimate communication environment, and introducing new elements such as sports and health for the Guangming Science City Forum.

Academics give opinions on three main disciplines

Han Jiecai, President of Harbin Institute of Technology, delivered a speech on “Building and Cooperation of Large Scientific Equipment in China”; Nancy Ip, President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, discussed the topic “Opening up a new world of cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen – innovation and technology”; Yang Xueming, vice president of Southern University of Science and Technology, gave a speech on free-electron lasers and their scientific applications, and Yan Nieng, head of Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, gave a speech with the Title “Medical Science Research in Guangming Science City – Some Explorations Bridging Basic and Clinical Sciences”. And academician Yang Xueming gave a speech on “Free-Electron Laser and Its Scientific Applications.”

Accelerate the construction of a world-class science city

In July 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology officially approved the construction of the Guangming Science City – Songshan Lake Science City area as the early start area for a comprehensive national science center in the Bay Area, the fourth national approval after Shanghai Zhangjiang, Hefei Binhu and Beijing Huairou. The core storage area of ​​the Comprehensive National Science Center.

While accelerating the construction of a world-class science city, Guangming Science City urgently needs to build a high-end comprehensive communications platform with international influence. To this end, in accordance with the work of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen will hold the Guangming Science City Forum in the first half of each year, with the permanent theme of “Bright – Building Dreams for the Future” to accelerate the construction of Guangming Science City, further improve concentration, Display and influence of Guangming Science City to help Shenzhen build a world important influence of science and technology innovation center.

After the construction and development in recent years, Guangming Science City focuses on three main disciplines: information, life, new materials, first-class design and gradually improved institutional arrangements, large-scale science and technology infrastructure to accelerate the advancement of innovation resources and innovation transportation companies to further agglomeration and plays an important role in building the international science and technology innovation center in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

It is reported that a number of large-scale science and technology infrastructure and innovation leaders in Guangming Science City have made new advances. Among them, research facilities for synthetic biology, brain analysis and brain simulation as well as material genome facilities will be put into operation this year. Construction work for precise medical imaging, special environmental materials and other facilities will start this year. And the second phase of supercomputing has started construction. Pengcheng Cloudbrain-Ⅲ is included in national planning. At present, the 24 major scientific and technological innovators of Guangming Science City have been settled, 2 university campuses or transition campuses have been officially opened, 9 major scientific and technological infrastructures, 2 provincial key laboratories, 11 scientific research platforms to accelerate.
