Yantai’s traditional paper-cutting shines in online exhibition

As the Lunar New Year approaches, Laizhou, a county-level city in Yantai, Shandong province, celebrates its rich cultural heritage with an online exhibition titled Dragon Soars in Laizhou: Enjoying Intangible Cultural Heritage. 

The exhibition, organized by the local cultural center, showcases exquisite paper-cutting artworks crafted by representative inheritors of Laizhou’s traditional paper-cutting.

Renowned artist Chen Shuxiang, recognized as one of the representative inheritors, brought her mastery to the forefront with intricate dragon-themed pieces that capture the essence of the Year of the Dragon. Her works have garnered national acclaim, reflecting her unparalleled skill and dedication.

Joining her is Zhang Ruixue, another esteemed inheritor, whose distinctive style merges the elegance of paper-cutting with contemporary influences. Notably, Zhang has curated Laizhou Paper-cutting, a dedicated and comprehensive compilation of the region’s heritage.Meanwhile, Guo Li’s pieces resonate with themes of filial piety, integrity, and harmony, earning her recognition in numerous exhibitions. Her dedication to preserving and promoting Laizhou’s cultural legacy is evident in each meticulously crafted artwork. 

Local artists utilize paper-cutting to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

Through this online exhibition, Laizhou invites visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and tradition of paper-cutting, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of the region. The showcased artworks not only celebrate the Year of the Dragon but also pay homage to centuries-old craftsmanship, ensuring its enduring legacy for generations to come.
