Transgender women banned from playing women’s cricket in England and Wales | Cricket

British Weekly May 3, 2025

After a change in politics, transgender women will no longer be able to play in the politics of sport due to the management gremization of sport in England and Wales.

Transmen have been excluded from the two best stages of the Elite Women -Cricket since the beginning of this year, but were allowed to take part in the women's game until the three -person game of the home game and throughout the leisure cricket. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) extended its policy in the last month with regard to a judgment of the Supreme Court of Great Britain. The change was officially approved on Friday at a board meeting.

The ECB said in an explanation: “With a direct effect, only those whose biological sex is female can use to play in cricket and girls cricket for women. Transgender women and girls can continue to play in open and mixed cricket.”

The football association announced new guidelines that are supposed to ban trans women from female competition on Thursday, and the sign was that the ECB would follow according to legal advice.

On April 16, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom clarified the conditions used in the 2010 Equal Opportunities Act. Within this clarification, it was said that section 195 of the law, which enables the lawful exclusion of athletes from gender -prepared sports, “clearly based on organic sex”. Pool was the first British sport to change politics after the decision. England Netball announced a new policy on Thursday, but emphasized that these changes had nothing to do with the judgment of the Supreme Court.

In its explanation, the ECB added: “Our regulations for the leisure cricket have always been to be taken from the fact that Cricket remains such a single -specific sport as possible. This comprises measures to manage differences, regardless of the gender of a person, and creates the enjoyment of all players. In view of the new advice that takes into account the effects of the highest court, we are of the opinion that today's changes that have been announced today.

“We acknowledge that this decision will have a significant impact on transgender women and girls. We will work with Cricket committees to support people who are affected by this change in our regulations. We are waiting for the updated guidance of equality and human rights commission (Ehrc) and will be carefully studying.
