A local charity is urging people to make sure the Christmas season isn't just about food and drink.
According to Beat, one and a half million people in the UK suffer from some kind of eating disorder.
These figures also show that a quarter of all people suffering from an eating disorder in the UK are men.
“Talk to someone”
Kerri Fleming is the group's protection leader:
“Many people come to us unsure of how best to support and plan ahead for people with an eating disorder
“Calls like “How do I have a conversation with my son/daughter/boyfriend or partner?”
She has this advice for someone who is overwhelmed:
“Talk to someone close to you, such as a close family friend or someone you trust.
“However, if this is not possible at this time, BEAT will be open on Christmas and there will be an online support group that evening from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.”
