SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2025 winners

British Weekly April 28, 2026 6 minutes read

The UK sports media industry celebrated its annual celebration and recognition of excellence with a very special gala evening SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2025, sponsored by Canon.

For the first time in the event's history, the iconic London Palladium was the venue, with Jim White, Reshmin Chowdhury, Bela Shah and Joel Beya sharing hosting duties.

For the second time in his career, The Athletic's Adam Crafton received the coveted John Bromley Trophy as SJA Sportswriter of the Year.

There's a new name on the Ed Lacey Trophy for Canon Sports Photographer of the Year. Getty Images' Julian Finney won the top prize and also won the Canon Portfolio category.

On the broadcast front, Gabby Logan (BBC Sport) also won presenter of the year for the first time, while Conor McNamara picked up the commentator award.

The Broadcast Journalist Award was won by Dan Roan for his second triumph in five editions of the awards.

The Sunday Times retained the title of Newspaper of the Year, while in the heavyweight Sports Publisher category, The Guardian took the top prize.

The Doug Gardner Award for outstanding contributions to sports journalism went to veteran photographer Bob Martin, a three-time Ed Lacey Trophy winner (1992, 1998 and 2001).
